Black & White Conservation Bungalow – East Coast
Heritage Living, Thoughtfully Furnished
Built in 1925, this remarkable 6,600 sq ft conservation Black & White bungalow is one of Singapore’s distinctive heritage residences. With its beautiful architectural detailing, generous proportions and unmistakable monochromatic character, it was a true privilege for Havana Interiors to work on such a rare and historic home.
Our clients had recently relocated to Singapore from Europe and required assistance furnishing the entire residence, transforming an empty property into a comfortable and welcoming family home.
From the outset, the design philosophy was one of complementing rather than competing with the architecture.
The original black-and-white detailing became the foundation for the interior scheme. Rather than introducing elements that would overpower the property’s character, furniture, rugs, lighting, artwork and accessories were carefully selected to sit naturally within the home and enhance its existing architectural features.
A restrained palette, natural materials and layers of texture brought warmth and softness to the expansive interiors. Contemporary furnishings were balanced with more timeless pieces, creating a home that feels collected and sophisticated while remaining sympathetic to the heritage of the property.
Particular consideration was given to scale and proportion. The bungalow’s high ceilings and generous rooms required substantial pieces that could comfortably inhabit the spaces, while thoughtful furniture placement created more intimate areas for everyday family living.
As an expatriate family establishing a new home in Singapore, our clients required more than individual furniture selections. Havana Interiors managed the furnishing process across the residence, creating a cohesive design and helping turn an extraordinary heritage property into a home that felt established, personal and ready to live in.
The completed interior celebrates everything that makes Singapore’s Black & White houses so special — their history, architectural character and timeless elegance — while introducing the comfort and functionality required for contemporary family life.
A considered interior for an extraordinary piece of Singapore’s architectural heritage.
