Relaxed Modern Coastal Living

This 3,000 sq ft holiday residence is located in one of Australia’s popular coastal towns and was designed for Australian expatriate clients living in Singapore.

The property was to become the family's home away from home - somewhere they could return to during Christmas and mid-year holidays, spending extended periods with their children, friends and family while enjoying the relaxed Australian coastal lifestyle.

With our clients based in Singapore, the project was designed and managed predominantly remotely, with Havana Interiors overseeing the design, furniture and furnishing selections from Singapore before travelling to Australia for the final installation.

The brief was to create a home that felt relaxed, contemporary and distinctly coastal, with subtle Hamptons influences.

A fresh and timeless palette formed the foundation of the interiors, complemented by natural textures, comfortable upholstery and relaxed furniture selections. Rather than interpreting the coastal aesthetic too literally, we focused on creating an understated sense of beachside living - light, welcoming and sophisticated without feeling overly themed.

Comfort was particularly important. This was first and foremost a family holiday home, designed for long summer days, children, visiting friends and extended family gatherings. Furniture layouts were therefore created around relaxed entertaining and spending time together, with generous seating and practical spaces that could accommodate a full house.

The property also needed to perform a second role. When the family was back in Singapore, the residence would be offered as a short-term rental. This meant every design decision needed to balance aesthetics, comfort and durability.

Fabrics, finishes and furniture were selected with frequent use in mind, ensuring the home could withstand different guests while still maintaining the quality and design expected of a beautiful private residence. The objective was to create an interior that felt personal enough for the owners to call home, but welcoming and practical enough to be enjoyed by visiting guests.

The result is a relaxed and beautifully considered coastal residence - comfortable enough for barefoot family holidays, sophisticated enough for entertaining, and durable enough for short-term rental use throughout the year.

For Havana Interiors, this project also demonstrates our ability to manage projects beyond Singapore. Working remotely with our clients before completing the installation in Australia allowed us to provide continuity of design and service, regardless of where the property was located.
