From Temporary Living to a Home Designed to Last

Our Australian executive client had been living in her Singapore apartment for several years, initially believing that her time in the country would be relatively short.

Like many expatriates arriving in Singapore, much of the furniture had been purchased as a temporary solution rather than as part of a considered long-term interior. As the years passed and her contract was renewed, Singapore had increasingly become home - and she was ready for the apartment to reflect that.

The client approached Havana Interiors to help transition the residence from a collection of temporary pieces into a calm, organised and beautifully considered family home.

The brief centred around creating an environment that felt serene and cohesive while remaining exceptionally comfortable and practical for the client and her young family.

We began by assessing the existing furniture and identifying where more considered, long-term investments would have the greatest impact. Rather than simply replacing individual pieces, the home was approached as a whole, allowing furniture, rugs, lighting, artwork and accessories to work together and create a consistent design language throughout.

The aesthetic was intentionally calm, understated and timeless. A restrained palette and comfortable furnishings created a sense of softness, while thoughtful furniture placement and organisation helped bring greater clarity and functionality to the spaces.

As a family home, comfort was essential. The interiors needed to look sophisticated while still supporting the realities of everyday life with young children. Furniture and materials were therefore selected with both longevity and liveability in mind — beautiful enough to elevate the residence, yet practical enough to be genuinely enjoyed.

The result is a home that feels settled, warm and effortlessly organised — no longer furnished around the idea of a temporary stay, but designed for the life the family had built in Singapore.

For Havana Interiors, this project reflects an experience familiar to many of our international clients. What begins as a two- or three-year posting can evolve into a much longer chapter, and eventually the temporary furniture and short-term decisions no longer reflect the way they want to live.

Sometimes creating a beautiful new home doesn't require moving at all. It simply requires deciding that the place you are already living deserves to truly feel like home.
